Activity
Since its establishment, the company has carried out over 200 national and international research projects and has continuously invested in the improvement of scientific competencies and the modernization of the material base necessary for drug research, aiming to obtain bioactive compounds, biopharmaceuticals and biodermatocosmetics.
To this end, the company capitalizes on research activities that generate patents and results with innovative potential, being actively involved in responding to both current scientific trends and market demands in Romania and abroad. These efforts materialize in the development of:
- advanced research applicable in biotechnology, medical and biological sciences, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and the food industry
- original technologies for obtaining drugs with increased efficacy and reduced toxicity
- methods, techniques, and methodologies for the characterization and testing of raw materials, intermediates, and products
- quality evaluation of plant-based products regarding toxic residues to ensure product safety
Within the company, research activities include the development and optimization of processing technologies for plant and animal raw materials, physicochemical and microbiological characterization of products at each stage of development, and the elaboration and testing of in vitro experimental models. These are conducted at Biotehnos using high-performance methods, such as liquid and gas phase chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry, enabling a complex screening for identifying and quantifying pharmaceutically active molecules isolated from complex matrices. Additionally, biopharmaceutical compounds are characterized in terms of impurities, residual solvents, and potentially toxic contaminants, such as pesticides and elemental impurities, through the use of advanced equipment. Analytical studies for the identification and quantification of compounds are performed based on spectral libraries and the use of reference standards.
The products undergo an innovative testing algorithm for specific action at the cellular, molecular, and enzymatic levels, determining the in vitro efficacy/toxicity profile using standardized cell lines or cell cultures, depending on the therapeutic target. Complementary techniques are involved, such as flow cytometry, qPCR analysis, imaging and cellular dynamics, electrophoretic techniques, and enzymatic analyses. The effects of compounds and structural biocomplexes are monitored in process modulations, signaling – growth factors and control, intra- and intercellular cascades, molecular-cellular interactions with an impact on cellular metabolism. Active principles with proven targeted biological action undergo formulation and conditioning studies through active substance release tests from the studied product.
Biotehnos has implemented a cutting-edge methodology in pharmaceutical research, represented by testing through a vertical diffusion system that allows the determination of the release degree of active ingredients from the developed formula, enabling the correlation of minimum effective doses in vitro–in vivo.
The efficient organizational structure ensures the necessary knowledge circulation flow in relation to production and service activities for the transfer and valorization of research and innovation results.
