Biotehnos is a Romanian pharmaceutical company founded in 1993 by Prof. Dr. Ioan Manzatu. It is currently headquartered in Otopeni, Ilfov County, near the country’s capital, Bucharest, and celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2023.

Biotehnos specializes in the development and production of original medicines and active pharmaceutical ingredients of both animal and plant origin. The company is built on a nationally accredited research infrastructure developed over its 30 years of existence, spanning the pharmaceutical field and related sectors such as biotechnology, cellular and molecular biology, dermato-cosmetics, and the food industry. Since June 2008, Biotehnos has been officially recognized for its research activities by the National Authority for Scientific Research in Romania.

Since 1996, Biotehnos specialists have received high recognition abroad, with their inventions and products winning gold, silver, and bronze medals at prestigious international invention fairs in Brussels, Geneva, London, and Budapest.

Since its inception, Biotehnos has followed a business model in which it acts as the producer, patent holder, and owner of the Drug Master File for various naturally derived (plant and animal) Active Substances. After completing pharmaceutical development and the necessary studies, the company conditions these substances into medicines by entering into Manufacturing and Control Contracts (service agreements) with certified companies authorized by the relevant regulatory authorities.

Biotehnos is also the Marketing Authorization Holder (MAH) for all the medicines in its portfolio, which it distributes in authorized countries, including Romania, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Armenia, Moldova, Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Ukraine.

Additionally, Biotehnos collaborates with companies developing new products or seeking to introduce medicines from outside the EU into the European market, providing certified physico-chemical, microbiological, and biological analyses, as well as other testing services.
